Getting Started

There are a few things for you to know, in order to get the best use from this website.

General Public Use

There are several sections and articles that are available to the general public and you are welcome to look at those. Please do not copy any articles without requesting permission beforehand, as this site content is copyright. However, use for referencing or commentary, including quoting short extracts, is also welcome, when done using any copyright fair use provisions.

Site

The website can be considered as having four parts:

  1. The public parts of the website accessible to everyone
  2. The parts of the website only available to registered users
  3. A survey section that has two parts (i) survey material available to anyone (ii) survey material only available to registered users
  4. A discussion forum available to registered users

The need for registration is partly to moderate content placed on the website, but the most important reason is because there are too many people accessing the world wide web who seem to have nothing better to do with their time than to try to hack or damage websites. There are also some significant benefits from registration, such as discounts on future editions of Business Process Analysis, or related publications.

Registering and Logging in

Before you can log into the website you need to be registered. To do that, use the register option in the left menu. Once your registration is successful, you will be able to log in to the website, see additional articles, and contribute any material you would like to. All submitted material will be subject to moderation - that does not mean censorship and it does not mean excluding material or views that are very different from the book or other contributors - it is mainly concerned with material that could be unlawful.

At the initial publication of this website, investigations were not yet complete about enabling a single login for the website, the survey material, and the discussion forum. Therefore, it is possible you are required to register separately for those website components.

Creating an article

Once you are logged in, a new menu will be visible. To create a new article, click on the "submit article" link on that menu.

The new article interface gives you a lot of options, but all you need to do is add a title an put something in the content area. To make it easy to find, set the state to published an put it in the User Articles category.

You can edit an existing article by clicking on the edit icon (this only displays to users who have the right to edit).
